Chinese diver He Zi wins silver medal, then gets a diamond ring in touching podium proposal

Chinese dudes are known for thinking up daring ways to publicly propose to their sweethearts, but it’s going to be hard for anyone to ever top what one guy just did.

In the women’s 3m springboard diving finals on Sunday, China’s Shi Tingmao claimed gold, while her teammate He Zi got silver. But that wasn’t all that He Zi received.

Afterward, He Zi’s boyfriend, Qin Kai, a bronze medalist himself in the men’s 3m synchronized springboard, got down on one knee and proposed to his longtime sweetheart, speaking to her for nearly a minute while the world watched.
When she finally nodded “yes”; his face says it all.

“We’ve been dating for over six years. I didn’t know that he would propose today, and I didn’t expect that I would marry myself out so early,” the 25-year-old diver said afterward. “He said a lot of things, made a lot of promises, but I think the thing that touched me the most is I think this is the guy I can trust for the rest of my life.”

The two have been dating since 2010, and apparently Qin almost blew his surprise proposal earlier that morning. “This morning in his room he was reciting something and I didn’t notice [what it was]. I asked him and he said he was singing,” He Zi added. “I didn’t know he was (practicing) the proposal.”
Smooth, dude!
