Police in Pennsylvania, are looking to arrest two thieves on a charge of destruction of public property after being seen on video cutting down a tree in order to steal a bike.
Fishtown police said that the incident unfolded on Thursday around 5:00 a.m.
The owner of the bike filed a complaint with the police and handed over a video, showing the thieves in action. The bike owner also uploaded the video to YouTube, and shared it on social media sites in order to get help from the public.
The owner of the bike told investigators that he always chains his bike to the tree in front of his house located on Frankford Avenue.
On Thursday morning, he woke to find that his bike was not chained to the tree. He also saw that the tree was cut down and was lying on the sidewalk.
He went to check his surveillance video, which showed the thieves in action. It took the thieves about five minutes of cutting the tree with a saw to free the bike.
The Parks and Recreation Department wants to charge the thieves with vandalism and destruction of public property while the police department are prepared to file
