A father was arrested on a charge of homicide after being accused of drowning his 3-year-old daughter in a hotel swimming pool, according to police in Mexico.
Now, the father identified as Jose David N. of Morelia, has been sentenced to serve 100 years in prison after being convicted of homicide in connection with the drowning of the 3-year-old girl.
According to police, Jose was recorded repeatedly throwing his daughter into the hotel swimming pool as other guests watched and did not intervene.
The mother of the child was asleep in her room when Jose killed the child.
When the mother, who was not identified, woke up and noticed that her daughter was not breathing, she took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The mother found her daughter’s lifeless body in front of the television, and she did not know how the child died until she saw the video of the drowning.
Jose’s attorney told a court that the girl died outside of the pool, but the judges rejected the argument and convicted him of homicide.
Prosecutors recommended a sentence of 40 years in prison, but the judges sentenced Jose to 100 years after seeing the video of the drowning.
