6 and 8-year-old boys play with lighter and set their house on fire while their parents were at work

Two boys in Florida, were taken away from their parents after setting their home on fire.

Neighbors who saw the smoke coming from the home, tried to put the fire out, but were unsuccessful.

They removed the children from the home and called the Osceola County Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at the home at about 3:20 p.m., and put out the fire. However, the home suffered extensive damage.

The boys were taken to a hospital, where they were treated for minor burns. The boys, who are 6 and 8 years old, were released to the custody of The Department of Children and Families.

The boys told police that they were home alone while their parents were at work. The children admitted to using a lighter to set a cup on fire before placing it in a drawer.

The parents were identified as Rosmarie Medina-Arroyo, 36, and Jonathan Lopez-Banos, 30. Both were arrested on charges of child neglect.

Lopez-Banos told police that he went to work at 12:00 p.m., and left the children with his wife. However, he was not able to get home before his wife left for work.
