A truck driver lured two teenagers into his vehicle, where he beat and sexually abused them for months.
The truck driver of Utah, pleaded guilty to holding two women hostage and using them as sex slaves in his semi-trailer while driving across the United States.
U.S. District Judge David Nuffer said that the abuses the women suffered at the hands of 56-year-old Timothy Jay Vafeades, were some of the worst he ever came across.
Vafeades was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
Vafeades lured the 18 and 19-year-old women into his truck by offering to them dinner at a restaurant.
However, he never took them to any restaurant. Instead, he locked them up in his trailer and said: “I have you now. You are mine,” according to the victims.
The truck driver, who is obsessed with vampires, has fangs on his teeth. Vafeades tortured the women. One woman said that the suspect did not like her crooked teeth and thought she had an ugly smile.
To correct the problem, he used a Dremel grinding tool to shave her teeth down. He also used an X-acto knife to remove a tooth, and he made the teenager wear false teeth, which he ordered for her.
In court, Vafeades gave a brief, emotional apology during the sentencing hearing. “I am sorry for my life. I am sorry for not recognizing myself and what a monster I am,” he said while crying.
Defense attorney Vanessa Ramos said that Vafeades was born as the product of his mother’s rape. Vafeades also suffered serious abuse as a child and he was never loved. Sadly, he repeated that pattern with his victims.
