Russia says to veto French draft U.N. resolution on Aleppo evacuation

U.N. Security Council veto power Russia cannot allow a French-drafted resolution to be adopted that is aimed at ensuring that U.N. officials can monitor evacuations from besieged parts of the Syrian city of Aleppo and the protection of civilians who remain, Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said on Sunday.

“We cannot support it, we cannot allow it to pass because this is a disaster. But there could be another thing which could be adopted today by the Security Council which would accomplish the same goals,” he told reporters, without elaborating.
