Bayelsa police foil attempt to steal N1.3m, arrest 2 robbery suspects

The Bayelsa state police command yesterday arrested two robbery suspects known to have been operating around an ultra-modern supermarket at the Opolo suburb in Yenagoa Local Government Area.

State police commissioner, Asuquo Amba, who launched the zero tolerance for crime and criminal activities in the state, said the police fully equipped to contain criminals in the state.

He said that Bayelsa would no longer be safe haven for criminals, even as he urged those engaged in criminality to relocate and find elsewhere to ply their trade.

Amba lauded the men of the police for swift response that foiled the attempt to steal the N1.3m and the subsequent arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.

The State Police Boss told journalists in Yenagoa that the suspects were Wero Paul, 32years and Innocent Uche 34years of age.

Accordingly, he suspects trailed the vehicle (Toyota Xterra) owned by Pastor Andy Sese to a supermarket (market square situated at opolo suburb); and immediately the pastor entered to purchase some beverages, the suspects hurriedly smashed the car window and collected the money.

Continuing, the suspects hurriedly board a tricycle with registration number ASK 540 Q , but they ran out of luck as the pastor put call through to the command and policemen were dispatched to the trouble spots.

Amba averred that their tricycle developed fault and the police caught up with them and arrested them, while money was recovered.

Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Asinim Bustwat said the culprits are in police custody while investigation is ongoing.

He however enjoined the public to always call when in distress, stressing that the command needs their inputs to serve society better.
