NARD: Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe reiterates support for ongoing strike

Dr Umeyor Chinedu, President, National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Gombe chapter, has reiterated support of the chapter to the ongoing indefinite strike by resident doctors.

The president of the branch stated this while briefing newsmen in Gombe on Friday.

Chinedu said that the chapter was part of the national body and they had no option than to continue with the strike until their demands were met by the Federal Government.

“This strike is to press home our demands from the Federal Government and these demands have been a recurrent issue.

“Most of the demands dated back to 2013 and up to date, we do not have any commitment from the Federal Government to address these outstanding issues,” he said.

According to him, the strike became inevitable after various agreements reached with the Federal Government were not kept.

“Reference to that, NARD FTH Gombe, joined the strike since its commencement on Sept. 4 and this is to re-emphasis that FTH Gombe is fully compliant with the national directive until the demands of the association are met,” he said.

He said that in spite of the strike, the hospital still rendered services as some consultants and Corps members were providing services for patients.
