Update: Nigerian Student in Northern Cyprus kidnapped, beaten and killed

In Famagusta, Northern Cyprus, a Nigerian university student Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede, who was 28 years old was beaten and kidnapped by 8 people and then taken to the Dardanelles Pond where he was killed.

Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede, a Mater student in Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) lifeless body yesterday at 16:45 was found at the point where the lake merged with the coast by two girls wandering around the region and the police were informed by the girls.

The Famagusta police arrested a Turkish Cypriot citizens OK (E-18), ZK (E-22) and B.Ç. (K-16), who they believed were interested in the matter through a quick and meticulous investigation. It was learned that the police were looking for more than 5 people connected with the killing.

A source who confidently spoke to Herald Nigeria, said Kennedy was killed because he was dating a Turkish Cypriot girl, which his assailants was not okay with.

Another source said Kennedy was beaten to death over drugs.

Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede, the victim of the catacombs, was found to have been severely beaten and severed in the head, especially at first checks by health teams. It was learned that the cause of the exact death will be determined after the autopsy done by Forensic Medicine Expert Idris Deniz at Gazimağusa State Hospital today.

Forensic Branch Offices and Case Study Investigators affiliated to the Famagusta Police Department conducted a lengthy review of the body of Kennedy Taomabwa Dede.

It has been learned that people arrested in connection with the Killing, which the police have been pursuing in a very rigorous manner, will be brought to court in Famagusta today.

Nidai Sanli, the ringleader of a group of Turkish Cypriots who allegedly beat Kennedy to death have been arrested in the Southern part of Cyprus. He will appear before the Magusa Accident Court today. His accomplices were remanded for seven days on Friday.

Seven people, aged 16-28 and including two women, have been arrested

The youngest suspect Burcu Celik, 16, has admitted to police she was at the crime scene but said she was not with the other suspects.

Another one of the suspects Simge Dagdur, 17, said on Friday: “I am regretful. I handed myself in to tell the truth, I didn’t run.”

An autopsy report showed Kennedy died from a number of blows resulting in cerebral haemorrhage and lung damage, according to Famagusta hospital.
