Man United held to a draw by 10 man Southampton

Jannik Vestergaard headed home Kevin Danso’s cross to cancel out Daniel James’ first-half opener at St Mary’s

Jannik Vestergaard scored his first goal in English football to earn 10-man Southampton a draw against Manchester United at St Mary’s.

Danish centre-back Vestergaard rose above Victor Lindelof to head the hosts level in the second half, moments after David de Gea had saved Danny Ings’ goal-bound header.

Daniel James had given United an early lead on the south coast with an arrowed finish into the top corner – the 21-year-old’s third Premier League goal of the season.

Saints defender Kevin Danso was shown a second yellow card for a second-half challenge on Scott McTominay, but Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side held on to claim a point.
