NGOs visit Ondo REC, Decry Violence Against Women

An umbrella body, under the auspices of Women Led Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Ondo State has paid a solidarity visit to the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Rufus Oloruntoyin Akeju in Akure.

Led by Mrs Olamide Falana, the group seized the opportunity of the visit which took place on 13th November to register its displeasure over all forms of violence against women.

Specifically, the group decried the harassment visited on the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) Governorship candidate for the Kogi Governorship Election, Ms Natasha Akpoti by unknown persons, during the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Stakeholders’ Meeting with political parties and their candidates, held in Lokoja on 12th November.

Ambassador Akeju thanked them for the visit and assured the visitors of the Commission’s commitment to increased women’s participation in the electoral process.

The group was made up of: Girls to Women Development Center; Mashiah Foundation; Restoration of the Dignity of Womanhood; Health Solution & Gender Violence Centre; Sweet Sisters Association; Association of Female Politicians; Centre for Women Under Landed Property and St Joavics Foundation.
