Court remand suspects arrested for trafficking Bangladeshis

In the incident that took place in Nicosia, the suspects Saidul Islam, Johrul Islam and Sayyed Ahmed, who brought 2 people from Bangladesh to the country with the promise of ‘taking them to Europe’ and employed them in construction works, were sent to prison.

Saidul Islam, Johrul Islam and Sayyed Ahmed, the suspects arrested on charges of ‘Secret Alliance to Commit a Serious Crime’ and ‘Violating the Military Restricted Zone in the First Degree’, were brought before the court yesterday morning.

Police officer Aykut Özkan, who gave sworn testimony in the court, reported the facts.

Police stated that the suspects were involved in the crimes of “Secret Alliance to Commit a Serious Crime” and “Breach of Military Restricted Zone in the First Degree”.

The police stated that the suspects promised to take 21-year-old Abdul Muhıt and 27-year-old Abdus Suban from Bangladesh to Europe in early 2022 as a result of the investigations carried out regarding the first-degree military forbidden zone violation that occurred in Nicosia on 6 August 2022.

He explained that it was determined that they were brought to the TRNC and received 6 thousand Euros from those named in return for this, and that they were registered in various educational institutions and employed in construction works.

Police said that suspect Sayyed Ahmed, who is wanted in the matter, was arrested on Monday (August 22nd) pursuant to a court order.

Özkan stated that the investigation was completed and the suspects did not have legal status and demanded that they be held in pre-trial detention.

Evaluating the testimony given in his presence, Judge Hazal Hacımulla ordered the suspects to wait as an uncontested prisoner for a period not exceeding 45 days in order to be ready for his trial.
