Fikri Ataoğlu visits new Ercan airport

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, during his visit to the new Ercan Airport, stated that they expect a great increase in the number of foreign tourists with the opening of the airport.

Minister Ataoğlu was accompanied by the Undersecretary of the Ministry Serhan Aktunç, TT Airport General Manager Serhat Özçelik and the airport technical staff.

In his statement during the visit, Minister Ataoğlu said that the new International Ercan Airport will be of great importance for the 2023 tourism season, and that they aim to open the Ercan Airport on the 15th of November TRNC’s founding anniversary.

Stating that they had a very productive meeting with Mehmet Ersoy, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, at the ministry last week, Ataoğlu noted that they started an initiative to ensure an intense flow of foreign tourists through Turkey with the completion of the airport.

Ataoğlu stated that they took the word from Minister Ersoy to promote and market the TRNC destination to all countries where Turkey is introduced through the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. stated that they aim to complete the year well above expectations.

Explaining that they are constantly collaborating with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Ataoğlu emphasized that the support continues both in terms of cultural activities and in the restoration of historical monuments.

Ataoğlu also stated that with the completion of the New Airport, large-bodied aircraft will be serviced, and that the airport has the capacity to serve 26 large aircraft at the same time.

Explaining that small-bodied planes came to our island because large-bodied planes could not land at the old airport, Ataoğlu stated that costs would be lowered with the arrival of large-bodied planes.

Ataoğlu also said that the new airport is ready, apart from electricity and lighting, and noted that the electricity and lighting connection will be completed in September.

Ataoğlu stated that after the electricity and lighting, the transportation and testing phase will be started, and that they aim to open the airport to service on November 15 with the completion of the tests.
