Wesley Fofana eyes silverware after leaving Leicester for Chelsea

Wesley Fofana has set his sights on silverware after joining Chelsea from Leicester for a reported £70million.

The Blues have handed the highly-rated centre-back a seven-year deal following a lengthy pursuit.

Fofana, 21, revealed his desire to challenge for trophies was the main reason behind the decision to switch to Stamford Bridge.

He said: “The two last days have been really big days for me and I’m very happy.

“I trained this morning with the team and it’s a dream for me. I’m very excited to start playing games for the fans and the club.

“I’m here to win trophies — the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything.

“I came here to win and the club is built to win trophies so I’m here to continue that.”

Fofana made 52 appearances during a two-year spell with the Foxes but was made to train with the Under-23s and left out of the last two matchday squads as he tried to force through a move.

He becomes Chelsea’s seventh senior signing this summer and will provide Thomas Tuchel with much-needed depth at the heart of defence.

Blues co-owner Todd Boehly labelled the new signing one of Europe’s best young talents.

Boehly said: “Wesley is a hugely promising defender who has already proven his quality in the Premier League at a young age.

“We are delighted we were able to bring one of Europe’s most exciting talents to Chelsea and further strengthen that area of our squad, both for this season and many more to come.”

Fofana could make his Chelsea debut on Saturday when London rivals West Ham visit Stamford Bridge.
