Unrest in prison due to unnecessary promotions allegation for elections

The allegations that “over-needed promotions will be made” in the Central Prison as a result of the pressures of the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Interior caused unease among the guards.

According to Yeniduzen, many guards claimed that the prison administration has been instructed to increase the number of sergeants, which is already more than the number of privates, and that the said instruction is a step towards elections.

According to the information confirmed by different sources, in the new organizational law prepared during the transition to the new prison, 40 sergeants must be present for 320 privates.

However, with the latest employments, the total number of privates does not exceed 200.

It is claimed that the government will increase the number of sergeants who are already ‘surplus’ by using the ‘new law’ in question.

It is alleged that the prison director, who is alleged to have been put under pressure by the Prime Ministry, to make 6 more promotions to the number of sergeants that are already more than needed, wrote the promotion letter.

According to Yeniduzen, one of the guards claimed, “They aim to make their party members work in more comfortable positions by placing them in rank”, while another guard commented, “The prison needs a private staff more than a sergeant.”
