Suspect who fled to southern Cyprus surrenders, remanded

Cengiz Deniz, who was tried and imprisoned many times for the crimes he committed in Northern Cyprus, then fled to Southern Cyprus while he was bound by collateral for the crime he committed, returned to the North and surrendered. The court ordered that the suspect be held in prison for a period not exceeding 3 months.

The suspect Cengiz Deniz, who fled to Southern Cyprus after being bailed for the crimes he committed in the country, returned to the North and surrendered. The suspect was taken to the court today.

Police officer Ozan Özder, who gave sworn testimony in the court, reported the facts.

The police stated that the suspect Cengiz Deniz was involved in many issues in Nicosia, Famagusta and Kyrenia during his three years in Southern Cyprus, for the crimes of importing, purchasing, exporting and disposing of approximately 1 kilogram of drugs.

The police also stated that the suspect had connections to many issues such as circus from the residence, opening a house at night, intentional damage, assault, violation of the Electronic Communications Law.

The police said that the suspect had three cases pending and that he had ‘Violated the Military Restricted Zone in the First Degree’ and crossed to the South while he was on collateral.

The police stated that the suspect surrendered to the Nicosia Judicial Branch on October 11 and demanded that he be held in custody in the Central Prison for a period not exceeding 3 months so that all matters related to the suspect could be resolved.

Evaluating the testimony given in his presence, Judge Nil Elodie Çeliker ordered that the suspect be held in prison for a period of not more than 3 months.
