Partial amnesty is coming for students, says Prime Minister

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that partial amnesty will be implemented in order to create an opportunity for students who are studying in higher education institutions to continue their education due to dismissal for various reasons.

Üstel stated that with the partial amnesty that will come into effect, these students will be given a second chance.

Prime ministerÜnal Üstel ‘s statement on the partial amnesty that will come into effect is as follows:

“Partial amnesty application will be put into effect in order to ensure that students who are citizens of TRNC, Republic of Turkey and other countries, who study in higher education institutions operating in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, dismissed from higher education institutions and had to interrupt their education, can continue their education in the relevant higher education institutions and complete their higher education.

In accordance with the Regulation on the Recognition and Equivalence of Foreign Higher Education Diplomas recognized by the Higher Education Council (YÖK), students whose transfers were canceled after transferring from universities abroad and students whose transfers were canceled after transferring from third country universities not recognized by YÖK to TRNC universities, whose registration was canceled students will benefit.

In addition, male students who have been dismissed from the relevant higher education institution and who are doing their military service on the date of entry into force of this Amendment Law, female students who are pregnant and coronavirus etc.

In the event that entry-exit is prohibited in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the country where the student is located due to the pandemic, the application periods of students who cannot enter the TRNC are regulated by this draft law.

While it is stated that the Draft Law (Temporary Rules) (Amendment) on Granting the Right to Continuing Education to Those Dismissed from Higher Education Institutions Operating under the Higher Education Law of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus No. 65/2005 has been prepared and sent to the Parliament for discussion after the approval of the Council of Ministers, partial student amnesty has been stated in the Official Gazette. It has been announced that it will enter into force after its publication.
