The Niger/Kogi Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it seized cargo worth N165,979,500 in November.

The Head of Customs, Kadejo Busayo, broke the news in Minna, the Niger State capital, saying the seized goods were 15 vehicles valued at N141,600,000. Busayo said other items seized included medicine, shoes, imported soap, machetes, pocket knives, second-hand clothes and tin of sardines valued at N24,379,500.

The controller said the order generated N22,670,706 in the month under review, but its turnover in September exceeded the N49 million claimed in the demand notice. He added that the team has already exceeded its revenue targets for the year.

Busayo reiterated the command’s commitment to challenge the smugglers and warned them that the Federal Government’s policy of border closure remains in place as NCS officials are fully prepared to cooperate with them. The comptroller attributed the command’s success to improved capabilities and logistics, inter-agency cooperation, adequate supervision of officers, Nigerian resolve and sharing of intelligence while calling for its maintenance.

He commended the controller and his management for providing an enabling environment to work in the best possible manner within their mandate and said no one would be speared when arrested.
