The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has charged traders to join hands in the fight against financial and economic crimes.

The called was made through Zainab Sani Ahmed, Head, Public Affairs, Kaduna Zonal Office during a sensitization/campaign rally, organised by the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC/EFCC Community Development Services group with the theme: “Corruption Must Go.”

It featured a walk that started from the Federal Secretariat, Kaduna, through Zaria Expressway down to Kawu Market, geared towards awakening the mindset of traders in the state and its environs on the need to shun corrupt practises while carrying out their day-to-day transactions, especially regarding alterations of expiry dates of products and the selling of fake and counterfeit products.

The anti-corruption awareness train made its first stop at the office of the Kawu Market Association, before proceeding into the market with their messages for the traders.

They displayed messages in local languages such as “Chin hanci bayasa chi gaban al’umma, Muna cewa chin hanci bamu yadda ba,” translated in English to mean: “let’s join hands to fight the monster; lets kill corruption before it kills us.”

In his address, the president, NYSC/EFCC CDS group Mohammad Bashir Aminu implored the traders to be agents of change in the fight against corruption, noting that the anti-corruption fight was a collective responsibility. He identified the fruits of corruption to include: bad road network, poor medical care, poor water supply, poor electricity supply and poor academic infrastructure, all of which are plaguing the country.

Responding, the Chairman of Kawu Market Association, Alhaji Sadanu Usman thanked the EFCC and the NYSC members for sensitizing the traders on corruption, noting that such was the first of its kind.

Alhaji Usman promised to take the anti-corruption message across to every member of the association, promising also to assist the commission in its fight against corruption.
