The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office has taken its enlightenment and sensitization campaign on the ills of corruption, economic and financial crimes to Christ Assembly Church, Benin City.

Head, EFCC’s Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Office, Williams Oseghale, who led the enlightenment team to the church on January 27, 2019, urged them to be wary of being victims of a number of ponzi schemes, claiming to enrich “investors”.

He said: “If someone comes to you and says come and deposit N50, 000 and I will double it or triple it at the end of the month, know that it is fraud.

“If someone calls you and says you have won this or that when you didn’t participate in any competition, know it is fraud.”

He also urged them to be cautious of the safety of their bank account numbers, stressing that it could be used by fraudsters for illegal transactions.

Greediness, he said, was a major loophole to fall victim to the antics of fraudsters, and so he admonished them to be circumspect and avoid being greedy.

Members of the Church were also enlightened about the various tactics being used by fraudsters, particularly online fraud.

He charged them to support the fight against corruption and to shun economic and financial crimes.

“Yahoo-yahoo is a serious crime, and it can consume your children, because the law is no respecter of anybody”, he said, as he charged parents to be interested in the activities of their children.

General Overseer of the Church, Rev. Victoria Guobadia, at whose instance the EFCC carried out the enlightenment campaign, commended the efforts of the EFCC in the fight against corruption.

She lent her voice to charge members to desist from all forms of fraudulent activities, adding that, “God is against dubious activities. So repent from it before the wrath of God falls on you’ she stated”.
