A black man in New York, was hailed a hero by many people after stepping in to stop a sexual assault on a bus.

However, his bravery came at a price as police officers treated him like a criminal.

Hip-hop artist Moise Morancy, 21, from Brooklyn, was on a bus in Queens, when he saw a girl being touched inappropriately by an older man.

The 15-year-old girl was sitting in the back seat of the Q53 bus when 36-year-old Pablo Levano sat down next to her. The man began speaking to the girl in English, before switching to Spanish.

Morancy said that the man began feeling up the girl’s legs and she seemed very uncomfortable. Morancy, who is a college student, decided to take action and stop the man from hurting the girl.

Morancy held down Levano until police arrived, while fellow passengers recorded the incident. When officers arrived, they placed both Morancy and Levano in handcuffs.

Morancy was not given a chance to explain himself. Morancy was told that he was being held on charges of assault on Levano.

Levano was arrested for touching the teenager. Morancy wrote on Facebook, that he was placed in the back of a patrol car until a black police sergeant arrived and freed him.

The sergeant congratulated Morancy on stepping in to protect the victim.

The girl later gave Morancy a rose as her token of appreciation for saving her. Morancy took a photo of himself with the sergeant and the arresting officers after he was freed.
