The General Secretary of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Musa Asake, yesterday, disagreed that the defeat of the former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan in the last presidential election had completely shut out the national body of Christians in the scheme of things in the country.
He noted that it was so disappointing for some people to be thinking along that line, adding that CAN is not a political organization or an affiliate of the federal government that it would be counting it losses after election.
Asake stated this in an interview with journalists after the inauguration of the national executive of the Youth wing of CAN (YOWICAN) in Abuja.
He maintained that had been up and doing in things pertaining to Christians in particular and the masses in general, throwing their weight behind the administration of President Muhammed Buhari.
“It is so disappointing to hear people thinking along that way, what has CAN got to do with Jonathan? Is CAN under government? Is government giving money to CAN? No! We are Nigerians, Jonathan lost election we have another leader.
“When something happened in the country, we speak. On the recent ban of morning devotion in primary and secondary schools, we reacted, you people (media) carry our press release. We are not keeping quiet,” he said.
Asake urged the new leadership of YOWICAN “to stick to motor of CAN taking from our Lord Jesus Christ that all may be one, no longer go in different directions.”
In his acceptance speech, the National Chairman of the Youth Wing of CAN (YOWICAN), Daniel Kadzai said they would focus on the propagation of gospel of Jesus Christ, while defending the church from undue criticizing.
“Our main focus is to defend the church and to ensure that we propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ across the nation. Above all, we will make sure that we unite the body of Christ at our level,” he said.
Kadzai urged Buhari’s administration to consider youth as part of his government by bringing them into leadership instead of recycling the old politicians.
