Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam said yesterday that President Muhammadu
Buhari has lived up to his promise of ensuring peace in the Boko Haram
ravaged North-East.

Gaidam, who said this during a courtesy call to him by Chief of Army
Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai at the Government House, Damaturu,
said that army under the current leadership, has recorded tremendous
achievements in the fight against insurgency, with peace fast returning
to the region.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Abubakar D.
Aliyu, said at the height of Boko Haram insurgency, 12 out of 17 local
government areas of the state fell into the hands of the terrorists,
forcing 300,000 people to flee their ancestral the homes.

“We thank God that the military has held the country together; and we
thank them for bringing peace back again to Yobe State,” he said.

Gaidam noted that the visit by the COAS would enhance the collaborations
between the state and the Nigerian Army to clear remnants of Boko Haram
terrorists in the country.

Earlier, Buratai, who was on a visit in the state to see the recently
established Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, said an operation
by the Multinational Joint Task Force is going on to clear the remnants
of the militants as well as consolidating the gains by opening up more
roads that were taken over during the ceaseless attacks.

He said such opening of roads will further give people the ample
opportunity to move about freely, which according to him, will further
boast economic activities within the areas initially under the control
of the terrorists.
