A former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to ex-Plateau State Governor Fidelis Tapgun, Anthony Kwame, his son; Emmanuel, and daughters; Theresa and Kerry, died in a fire, which gutted their home in Jenta-Adamu, Jos, the Plateau State capital, yesterday.
Police spokesman Terna Tyopev said the deceased’s wife, Charity and daughter, Evelyn, survived the disaster but sustained severe burns.

“The deceased were burnt to ashes; what was taken to the mortuary were just skeletons,” Tyopev sad.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but neighbours said it started around 1 am.

“The fire started around 1 am; that is all I am sure of,” Tina Fobur, a neighbour, said.

Village Head of Jenta-Adamu Kabala Bako, whose residence shares a fence with  the deceased’s, said he rushed out when he heard sounds of the fire.

When I rushed out, I called to other neighbours and we tried to put out the fire, but it had engulfed the house and there was nothing we could do. But we succeeded in preventing it from spreading,” Bako said.

The two survivors, on admission at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, could not speak on the possible causes of the fire.
