A woman was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud after allegedly hiring her friend to cut off her hand and foot in order to collect disability insurance, according to police in Vietnam.
Hanoi police said that the 30-year-old woman identified as L. T. N., is still recovering at a hospital after doctors were unable to reattach her left hand and left foot, which were cut off by 21-year-old Doan Van D.
According to the police investigation, one night around 12:00 a.m., the woman and her friend went to the train tracks, where he cut off the woman’s foot and hand.
He then called the police to report that a train had run over the woman. The woman was rushed to a hospital, but doctors were unable to reattach her hand.
The woman then filed a claim to collect $100,000 disability insurance, which she had taken out just weeks earlier.
Investigators of the insurance company learned that no train was in the area at the time of the alleged incident. The insurance company notified the police and the woman was arrested.
As a result if her criminal behavior, the woman was left without money and lost her limbs.
