An official of the Environment Agency of Norway, announced that a gamekeeper has found hundreds of dead reindeer as he went to inspect a national park, where more than 10,000 reindeer live.

Kjartan Knutsen said that on Friday, the gamekeeper inspected the Hardangervidda plateau, where he found 323 dead reindeer, following a lightning strike.

The dead animals were lying on the ground in a relatively small space.

Experts believe that one or two reindeer were directly struck by the lightning while the rest died from electric current that traveled in the ground.

The lighting strike was the deadliest ever recorded in the Guinness World Records. The previous record was 68 dead animals from one lightning strike.

On Sunday, a herd of cows that were relaxing under a tree during a storm near Hallsville, Texas, died following a lightning strike.

The herd of cows immediately fell to the ground and 19 of them did not get up. The other managed to stumble away.
