A man who fell asleep while cooking French fries, caused a fire that completely destroyed a six family apartment building, according to police in Pennsylvania.
The McKees Rocks Fire Department said that multiple units rushed to the scene of the apartment building fire early on Tuesday morning around 4:00 a.m.
The smoke alarms were not loud enough, but luckily, the 13 adults and 9 children made it out safely. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene on Alexander Street, the building’ roof was on fire.
Firefighters were unable to fight the fire from inside the building, and it took them many hours to bring the blaze under control from the outside.
Police launched an investigation, and they ruled that the fire was caused by accident. One of the occupants of the apartment building, was cooking French fries on his stove, but he fell asleep.
The frying pan eventually caught on fire, and the flames quickly spread to the rest of the building.
