Zoo keepers are very pleased with the way they were able to save an endangered species of tortoises.

About 50 years ago, there were only 14 Chelonoidis tortoise known to exist.

All 14 tortoises were taken to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, for a breeding program.

Diego had been at a zoo in San Diego, California, since 1930, and was one of two males know to exist. The other 12 were female.

In 1977, Diego was sent back to his homeland in Espanola, to help repopulate its species.

The super sexually charged tortoise was renamed Super Diego, after a study conducted by tortoise preservationists found that Diego has fathered more than 1,000 babies.

Now, they are no longer considered an endangered species.
