Ineligible voters discovered in Taraba’s register

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has queried some of its senior officials in Taraba State for allegedly registering ineligible voters.

The illegal voters, according to a statement by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Fabian Vwamhi, have been expunged.

The statement reads: “Following laid down processes, the Taraba office of INEC discovered that some ineligible voters were registered in during the Continuous Voter Registration.

“This is not only contrary to INEC’s guidelines for registration, but also a violation of the Electoral Act.

“Consequently, the Taraba State office has flagged these illegal registrations for removal from the voter register. In addition, it has queried the electoral and the registration officers of the centre.

“We have also informed commission’s headquarters in Abuja and drawn the attention of security agencies for further investigation and prosecution of culprits.”
