Nine Jewish worshippers remanded in Abia

A Magistrates’ Court 7 sitting in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State and presided over by U. O. Egwu has remanded nine Jewish worshippers in Afara Prison custody.

The police reportedly arrested the worshippers at the weekend in the home of leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,


They were there to hold their Shabbat celebration and pray for Kanu.

The worshippers said Kanu had been missing since security agencies stormed his father’s home last October.

The arrested worshippers are: Nkama Agha (30), Ifeanyichukwu Anukwua (33), Elder Ifeanyi Nwafor (53), Linus Njoku Ede (44), Mzi Donatus Nwadike (75), Chukwuemeka Adaenyi (32), Uche Ikechukwu (45), Akelibo Okurishi (25) and Nwaeke Nehemiah Oguguo (27).

The police arraigned the suspects under the Terrorism Act of Abia State Law 2009.

The charge reads: “That the above persons and others at large on May 13, at Afaraukwu in Umuahia North Local Government Area, were arrested while they were carrying out their act of terrorism and with the intent to frighten ASP Justus Ogar of Abia State Police Command and his team and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 12(a) of the Abia State Prohibition of Terrorism, Kidnapping, Hostage-taking, Use of offensive Weapons or Explosives and other Threatening Behaviour Law 2009.”
