Miami police wounded a gunman who opened fire early on Friday in the lobby of the Trump National Doral Golf Club, a resort owned by Donald Trump, and draped an American flag over a counter as he shouted about the U.S. president, police said.

The man lowered the flag that was flying outside the club, went into the lobby at about 1:30 a.m. EDT (0530 GMT) and placed the flag over the counter. He then began firing, sending employees fleeing as police responded, Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said.

“This guy was ready for war. He was waiting for our officers to come in, ready to engage,” Perez said in an interview with Miami’s WIOD radio station.

The gunman was shot in the legs by police and taken into custody. He was in hospital in stable condition, Perez said.

A Doral police officer suffered a broken wrist that was not related to gunfire, authorities said. Police have not said what kind of weapon the gunman had.

Perez had earlier said it was unclear what motivated the man.

“We are not saying this is terrorism, but we are not discounting anything at this point,” he said at a news briefing.

Perez said the man was shouting anti-Trump remarks, but had no details. Authorities are trying to find out how he gained entry to the 800-acre (323-hectare) resort in the early morning hours.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting. Federal agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service, also responded to the scene, Perez said.

Trump National Doral Golf Club is home to four championship golf courses. Trump bought the property for $150 million in 2012.
