A 25-year old man, Ojonugwa Adejoh, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly stealing underwear belonging to his brother’s wife, for rituals.
He was arrested with Prophet Olajide Ogunleye, 53, of the Celestial Church of Christ, Ibanujemidopin Parish, Uso, in Owo Local Government.
Parading the suspects in Akure yesterday, police spokesman Femi Joseph said the suspects were arrested last week following a complaint by the victim.
Adejoh said: “I went to the prophet to pray for me because of my work. When I got there, he asked me the type of work I do and I told him that I am a panel beater. He said he wanted to pray for me and asked me to open my palms. He then put something there and asked me to swallow it.
“When I got home, I didn’t know what I was doing again. I just started looking for my brother’s wife’s pants. When I got the pants, I went back to him. I didn’t steal the pants for rituals. Hours after, my brother’s wife raised the alarm that her pants were missing and I was arrested. When the police arrested me, I was taken to Uso Police Station before they transferred me to Akure.
“The two pants belonging to my brother’s wife and three others belonging to my younger sister are in my possession.”
The prophet, however, denied the allegation.
He said he didn’t ask Adejoh to steal the pants.
The command also arrested two guards for alleged attempt to rape one woman who was returning from church around 8pm on Agbogbo Road, Akure.
The suspects, Daniel John, 25, and Longbap Bongven, 25, from Plateau State, according to the police spokesman, said they always hid around the area whenever they wanted to perpetrate the act.
