Akpabio, Jonathan’s ex-aide wins units for Buhari, Duke loses

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress beat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, at the polling unit of Senator Godswill Akpabio in Akwa Ibom.


Buhari on Saturday had 1,553 votes to emerge winner at polling unit 9, Ukana West, ward 2, in Independence High School, Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, came a distant second with 11 votes. Buhari also won at Jeremi ward 2, unit 6 in Eyara community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Unit 2 is the polling unit of a former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Olorogun Ima Niboro.

Buhari had 231 votes to beat Atiku who had 145 votes.

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, on Saturday accused security agencies in the state of intimidating the electorate during the presidential and National Assembly elections.


Major roads in Uyo had heavy presence of military and police personnel to enforce the non-vehicular movements of persons.

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party and former governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke, lost in his polling unit in the presidential election.

He had only six votes while Atiku and Buhari had 291 and 98 votes respectively.
