The Bayelsa State Government House photographer, Reginald Dei, who was reportedly shot dead by suspected political thugs in army uniform at Oweikorogha in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area during Saturday’s elections, is alive.

Dei, who alongside the Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the area, Mr Seidougha Taribi, was reportedly attacked by the gunmen, is recuperating at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, after his miraculous recovery.

He was reported dead on Sunday after a statement from the Government House announced his death to journalists on Saturday.

Journalists in the state were left in mourning as a result of the announcement, but they woke up to the good news on Sunday that Dei did not die after all, but was on life support in the hospital.

He is said to be in a critical condition due to the gunshots wound and might need to be flown abroad for further treatment.

Though the Government House has yet to make any official statement on his recovery, Dei’s colleagues were in a jubilant mood on Sunday after receiving the news of his escape.

Most of them expressed happiness at the turn of events, praying God to complete his recovery.
