Dr Roseline Kela, Nasarawa State Commissioner of Health, says the government is working towards ending the strike action by the Nigeria Medical Association in the state.

Kela told newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia that the state Governemnt and NMA have been able to resolve two out of the demands of the union.

“We have been meeting with them since Friday and as at yesterday, we were able to resolve the issue of career stagnation and arrears of the reviewed salary structure.

” The only issue pending is that of over-taxation and a committee was set up with a view to addressing it,” Kela said.

Kela, who led a team to observe situation at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia, following the strike action by NMA, expressed delight with the services being rendered at the hospital.

She noted that in spite of the strike, patients on admission were still been attended to.

According to her, some doctors and other health personnel at various departments of the hospital were rendering normal services.

She, however, appealed to NMA to always engage other means, especially dialogue in addressing issues rather than resorting to strike.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that the state chapter of NMA embarked on a 3-days warning strike over issues of career stagnation, N400 million arrears of corrected salary structure and over taxation.
