Fraudster Bags Jail Term for Cheating, Impersonation

Justice Samirah Bature of a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Maitama, on July 4, 2019 sentenced Aminu Ado who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on a one-count charge bordering on cheating and impersonation, to three months without an option of fine.

The charge against him reads: “That you, Aminu Ado (otherwise called Aminu Ado Yerima) sometime in April 2019 at Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did cheat by impersonation, by representing yourself to be Muhammad Bello of Naboyi BDC 52, Gwagwalada Road Abuja and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code, laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990 and punishable under Section 324 of the same Act.”

He was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Service and handed over to the EFCC on May 7, 2019 for further investigation and prosecution.

Ado was earlier on June 27, 2019 found guilty of the offence after he pleaded “guilty” to the charge, following a plea bargain entered with the prosecution.

Sentencing was thereafter, reserved for July 4, 2019.

Delivering judgement, Justice Bature, sentenced him to three months in prison without an option of fine.
