Bayelsa Guber: Lyon’s kinsmen support Diri

Douye Diri

Kinsmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Chief David Lyon, have promised to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard-bearer, Senator Douye Diri, on November 16.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the Senator Douye Diri Campaign Organisation, Dr. Jonathan Obuebite, said yesterday in a statement that the Southern Ijaw people took the decision at Amassoma.

Obuebite said Amassoma, the country home of the first civilian governor of Bayelsa State, the late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, is the largest community in Southern Ijaw Local Government.

The people displayed placards with inscriptions such as: “Amassoma is for PDP, Amassoma is PDP”, “Say no to APC”, “APC responsible for the untimely death of our brother, Chief Alamieyeseigha.”

The mammoth crowd said that the PDP administration impacted positively on the people and deserved to be supported.

The Vice Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government, Pastor Perkins Ogede, warned the APC against dropping the name of the late Chief Alamieyeseigha in its desperation for undue political advantage.

He said that until his death, Alamieyeseigha never believed in the ideology of the APC.

Ogede said: “The APC should stop using the name of the late Alamieyeseigha to curry political favour. Everything in Amassoma, Alamieyeseigha’s country home, was provided by the PDP. For five years that Chief Timipre Sylva was governor, he did not drop one bucket of sand at the Niger Delta University (NDU).
