Wife of Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Tambuwal says she would continue to champion the course for economic empowerment, social awareness, medical outreach services and other intervention activities to alleviate the sufferings of people in the state and beyond.
According to her, “My project knows no bounds, irrespective of religion, political affiliation, gender or tribe. I will not compromise my drive through this laudable initiative for the people.”
Mrs Tambuwal, who is founder of Legacy Initiative, gave the assurance at the weekend when she flagged-off her distribution of palliatives, empowerment tools and intervention items worth millions of naira to cushion the economic effect of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
She noted that the pandemic has slowed down economic growth, with attendant effect on education, culminating into gender-based violence against women, girls and boys, which has transited into mental derailment, stigmatisation among other negative consequences.
Items distributed included assorted food stuffs (rice, grains, millet, maize, beans, cooking oil).
She also distributed grinding machines, mortar, seedlings (economic trees; dates palm, Mango, Guava, Papaya, Citrus (oranges).
According to the state First lady, the Legacy Initiative was essentially to strengthen opportunities for women and children of all sex.
“Our outfit will work in synergy with the state Zakkat and Endowment Commission on GBV issues affecting women and children across all zones and LGAs,” she explained.
While hinting on the launch of ‘Back to School Programme’ campaign segment at the event, Mrs Tambuwal explained that no fewer than 1000 pupils and students would benefit from various learning tools, ranging from exercise books, handbooks among others in different dialects.
Earlier, Commissioner for Social Welfare and Community Development, Prof. Hajiya Aisha Madawaki described Mrs Tambuwal as a role model and game-changer towards domesticating laudable initiatives with beneficial impact on the people through her pet project.
