The Katsina State Government Wednesday announced that it has shut down all internally displaced person camps, IDPs, in the state, and repatriated about 27,000 people back to their homes and villages.

The State’s Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Alhaji Sani Danlami, who made the above disclosure while briefing newsmen at Government House Katsina, further listed the affected camps to include: Dandume, Faskari, Kankara, Batsari, Jibia, ATC Katsina and the less privileged home, Katsina
He said the decision to disband the camps followed the gradual return to peace and security in the state.
He said; “The government has assisted the displaced persons to go back to their villages in order to continue with their lives.”
“Today in Katsina state, there is not a single person in our internally Displaced Persons camps.
“We are also aware that there are some people who are still roaming the streets and claiming to be displaced persons.”
Danlami further disclosed that the state government will not welcome any person or family groups roaming the urban cities of the state and claiming to be internally displaced persons.
He assured well-meaning citizens of the state that the state government will not fold its arms and allow some disgruntled elements to tarnish its image.
He said, “The state government is always ready to continue to support the IDPs with all necessary logistics and foodstuff so that they can continue with their normal lives in their villages.”
