The Lagos Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) today, February 2, 2021 recognized some Sections, Teams and individuals for their resourcefulness and dedication to work.
The Head of the Legal Department, Okotie Eboh annex, was commended for securing 137 convictions in 2020, while two legal officers, Ahmed Yerima and Abdullahi Yerima received commendation for recording 49 and 37 convictions respectively.
The Advance Fee Fraud Section received plaudits, having secured the highest convictions- 96, in 2020, followed closely by the Cyber Crimes Section with 86 convictions.
On Asset recoveries, the Chairman Monitoring Unit emerged tops with N3.4Billion and $5,000, 000, while the Economic Governance Section came second with N1.9Billion and $1.1Million.
Apart from the Sections, some Teams were also singled out for commendation. They are: Team A, Cyber Crimes Section with 30 convictions, Team A of the Advance Fee Fraud Section with 29 convictions; Team E, Economic Governance Section which had the highest recovery of N1.7billion and $1.1million followed by Team E , Tax Fraud Section, with N1.8billion
Speaking at the brief ceremony, the Zonal Head, Abdulrasheed Bawa, congratulated the awardees for distinguishing themselves.
“This is an exhibition of competency and it is exemplary. It has culminated into some of the achievements recorded by the Zone, which has contributed immensely to the overall efforts in achieving the Commission’s mandate,” he said
