NAPTIP will continue to respond and prosecute violence persons cases – DG Fatima Waziri

Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Dr. Fatima Waziri – Azi, says the Agency will continue to respond swiftly to all issues relating to the offences of Violence Against Persons and other forms of abuses in order to change the existing narrative and ensure that justice is adequately served.

She disclosed that apart from several cases been received and ongoing prosecutions on violence against persons offences, more states are now migrating on the platform of the Sexual Offences Register which is designed to name and shame sexual offenders.

Dr. Fatima Waziri – Azi stated this at the Headquarters of the Agency in Abuja while playing host to a team of  European Union Evaluation and Formulation Team of the Rule of Law and Anti – Corruption (ROLAc) Programme.

The Director General who described ROLAc as a dependable partner of the Agency said the intervention of ROLAc has been commendable in the areas of the development of the Sexual Offender Register, maiden launch of the VAPP implementation Annual Report, development of NAPTIP Short Telephone Code to enhance prompt reporting of cases, identification and deployment of Protection Officers to the 6 Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory among other interventions.

She called for the sustenance of the ROLAc programmes and renewal of the project.

In her response, Leaders of the Team and a Justice expert, Dominique Jacques commended the Director General for her response to gender based issues most especially the prosecution of sex offenders and disclosed that their mission was to carry out the assessment of the impact of the intervention of ROLAc and make recommendation for its second phase.   

Present at the meeting were Directors and Officers overseeing the ROLAc programmes.
