We made changes to salaries of employees in public sector – Minister of Finance

Minister of Finance Alişan Şan stated that they made small touches to the salaries of those who entered the public sector after 2011, albeit small, and said that this would be reflected in their salaries in September.

Minister of Finance Alişan Şan, held his third meeting with unions organized in the public sector today. Making a statement after the meeting, KTAMS President Güven Bengihan announced that they left the meeting and took a decision to take action.

According to the written statement made by the Ministry, the Minister of Finance Şan, within the scope of the annual base and tax rates and the ‘Law on Regulating the Monthly Salary, Wages and Other Allowances of Public Employees No. 47/2010’, to eliminate the grievances of those who entered the public sector after 2011 due to excessive tax cuts due to inflation, gave information to the unions organized in the public sector.

Minister of Finance Alişan Şan stated that they have been working on the annual base and tax rates, but that they can change the rates at the beginning of the year.

Minister of Finance Şan said:

“At the end of 2021, the Ministry of Finance wanted to make adjustments to the annual base and tax rates, which will be effective in January 2022.

However, changes could not be made in the tax base and tax rates, which were changed once a year due to objections at that time.

In this context, as the cost of living ratio is reflected in the gross salaries, the net increases in the cost of living were less reflected as those working in the lower levels entered the higher tax brackets.”

Minister of Finance Alişan Şan stated that they made small touches to the salaries of those who entered the public sector after 2011, albeit small, and said that this would be reflected in their salaries in September.

He noted that they increased 300 TL for those working in service classes with secondary education, 200 TL for those working in high school education service classes, and 100 TL for those working in higher education service classes.

Minister San; “My heart would have wished there were higher figures. Our people deserve better. But this is very clear, we were also faced with an additional budget.

While making this additional budget, the cost of living was more than we expected. There are also some problems and difficulties in our own pens.

When we made an evaluation considering all these, the result came out like this. Maybe these figures may not be a very good ones, the government and our hearts would like it to be much better.

However, we tried to show that we could do it within the limits of the means at our disposal.”

UNIONS LEFT THE MEETING

KTAMS President Güven Bengihan said that they left the table in the face of the proposal of the Minister of Finance Şan.

Bengihan had stated that neither the employees were beggars nor that the unions could stand against this embarrassment any longer.

Bengihan also announced that the unions decided to take action in the next process and that they would evaluate this process among themselves and share it with the press.
