Epidemic action plan for winter months should be in place – Jale Refik Rogers

People’s Party (HP) Kyrenia Deputy Jale Refik Rogers said, “As we enter the winter months, the Ministry should inform the public about the Covid 19 vaccination program and especially encourage risk groups to vaccinate.”

According to the information provided by HP, Rogers answered questions about the Ministry of Health in a TV program she participated in.

Jale Refik Rogers, asking whether the Ministry of Health has an action plan to increase the number of Covid-19 cases again, “The drug shortage in our country is a big problem. As we enter the winter months, it should be a priority to work on both the shortage of medicine and the supply of vaccines”.

Voicing the World Health Organization’s call for countries to be prepared for the possibility of new variants of Covid-19 emerging this winter, Rogers stated that it is necessary to be prepared both for this and the risk of increasing flu epidemics.

Rogers underlined the importance of the Ministry of Health’s initiative regarding the supply of these vaccines, stating that bivalent vaccines including Omicron and its sub-variants of Sars Cov2 are produced and that these vaccines come to the South.

Rogers said, “We are currently seeing the course of the Covid 19 disease change and alleviate. The virus has different variants and sub-variants. There are new vaccines for them in the world. Experts say that the current vaccines we use are also effective, but bivalent vaccines are more effective.

Some vaccines can be obtained through the bi-communal health technical committee, but we do not know if the Ministry of Health has taken other initiatives. As we enter the winter months, the Ministry needs to inform the public and especially encourage risk groups to vaccinate.”

Rogers said; “Health is, of course, one of the places where the biggest problems are experienced. The increasing population is increasing the problem day by day. Our current organizational laws are not in a position to support the health system anyway.

There are many missing specialties such as emergency medicine specialist and child psychiatrist. The law on the organization of inpatient treatment institutions could not be updated.

Work had begun to do this, but when the pandemic entered, health priorities changed and could not be completed. The law needs to be brought to Parliament and updated immediately.

Health personnel work in very difficult conditions in points such as emergency services. It’s not just about money, they’re making huge sacrifices, but the situation as it stands is not sustainable. At this point, the Ministry of Health needs to take action so that employees can provide more effective service.”

Rogers added that the use of the Emergency Hospital for non-Covid diseases is important in terms of supporting the insufficient capacity of Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, but that a planning should be made based on common wisdom and scientific data for the most efficient use of this building.
