Greek-Cypriot immigrant from Dikmen returns house key to Turkish-Cypriot

A Greek Cypriot immigrant from Dikmen (Digomo) gave the key to his house, now located in Paphos, to a Turkish Cypriot originating from Anadiu (Görmeli) village of Paphos.

Fileleftheros newspaper wrote that Greek Cypriots of Dikmen origin and Turkish Cypriots of “Anadiu” village of Paphos left their villages and properties in 1974, and that these people later settled in each other’s villages by chance and met after the barricades were opened, and that a relationship of trust was formed between them.

The newspaper, which wrote that the headman of “Kato Dikomo” (Lower Dikmen) Christos Hasikos announced this situation at the “Dikmen Festival” held in Agios Georgios park in Lakatamia on September 2, said that hundreds of Cypriots of Dikmen origin, as well as hundreds of Cypriots from Dikmen, are now in Dikmen.

He stated that there are also a Turkish Cypriot of Paphos origin and his wife, and a Greek Cypriot immigrant of Dikmen origin, who currently lives in the Anadiu village of Paphos.

The newspaper reported that, according to what was expressed at the event, the aforementioned Greek Cypriot immigrant gave the Turkish Cypriots the key to his house so that they could enter when he was not at home, and that he would greet them if they were at home if they knocked on his door.

The village of Anadiu is located 31 kilometers northeast of Paphos; there are the villages of “Sarama” (Kuşluca) and “Liso” in the north, Krittu Marottu (Gritmarut) in the east and south, and Fiti in the west.

Until 1974, only Turkish Cypriots lived in the village.

After 1974, the village was uninhabited for almost 30 years, but after 2000 the government of the Republic of Cyprus was given incentives to settle in the village.

The current inhabitants of the village do not exceed 20.
