Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu stated that they will not allow those who are engaged in unsuitable jobs other than students to pollute the country and disturb their fellow students.

Minister of education Nazım Çavuşoğlu received Kingsley Ifeanyi Nweke, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, representing Nigerian students, and the accompanying delegation.

Behçet Çelebi, Director of the Department of Higher Education and Foreign Relations, and the staff of the department were also present at the meeting.

Listening to the opinions and suggestions of the students, Minister of National Education Çavuşoğlu pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot community is a society that attaches great importance to freedom and independence and believes that countries should live with their own identities, cultures and beliefs.

Stating that Nigerian students’ names have been mentioned in some judicial incidents recently and they are very sorry about this.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that both the society and the students have to comply with the laws in the country.

Çavuşoğlu said, “The families of the students who come to our country entrust their children to us. We also want these children to receive quality education in safety and to return to serve their country.”

Stating that they have to protect all students who come to the TRNC and whose aim is to receive quality education.

Nazım Çavuşoğlu said, “We want students to come here. We do not want people with other intentions to come to our country.”

In this context, Çavuşoğlu also underlined that they will not allow those who are engaged in unsuitable jobs other than students to pollute the country and disturb their fellow students, stating that he did not have any problems with the students and the people who came to the country.

Çavuşoğlu stated that the problems were experienced among the students and that the police fulfilled their duty in the incidents.

Emphasizing that being educated in a country that values ​​freedom, does not discriminate against language, religion and race, and where cultural exchanges are made with students from various countries, it is an important wealth and that this should be protected.

Çavuşoğlu stated that necessary steps will be taken to prevent people who will disrupt this environment.

Stating that the news and statements in Nigeria does not reflect the truth and that these statements upset them deeply.

Çavuşoğlu emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people did not harm any students and that the TRNC is a safe education island. Çavuşoğlu noted that the statements made were purposeful.

Stating that he believed that the statements made by Nigerian nationals and students living in the TRNC would prevent the negative perception that was intended to be created. Çavuşoğlu thanked the students for their statements.

President of the National Nigerian Students Union Kingsley Ifeanyi Nweke thanked Minister Çavuşoğlu for listening to his views and suggestions at the beginning of his speech.

Stating that Nigerian students receive education in the country peacefully and freely.

Nweke said that they do not have any problems with the Turkish Cypriot people and that Northern Cyprus is a country free from violence.

Expressing that they will organize an event on October 1, Nigerian Independence Day, invite Minister Çavuşoğlu to the event in order to prevent this image drawn outside.
