African national who stayed 507 days illegally arraigned, remanded

Aaron Kalamba Kimwanga, who was determined to have been illegal in the country for 507 days, will be detained in the police for 2 days.

The suspect Aaron Kalamba Kimwanga, who has been on the run for 507 days in the country and was identified and arrested the previous day, has been brought before the court.

Police officer Gültekin Sancar, who gave sworn testimony in court, stated that 23-year-old suspect Aaron Kalamba Kimwanga, who was present, was accused of being in the TRNC without a residence permit.

The police noted that the suspect Aaron Kalamba Kimwanga, who was identified in Ortaköy on October 19, 2022 at around 04:00, had been in the TRNC without a residence permit for 507 days during the immigration control.

Stating that the suspect entered on March 31, 2021 with a 60-day student visa, Sancar stated that an investigation should be made for what purposes and where he was on the island during his time in the TRNC.

The police demanded that the suspect be kept in police custody for 2 days so that the investigation could be conducted safely.

Evaluating the testimony given in his presence, Judge Nil Elodie Çeliker ordered the suspect to be detained in the police for 2 days for investigation purposes.
