Natural earthquake continues in Turkey and her environs

Another severe earthquake occurred in Hatay, where the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes caused great destruction. 

According to the information on the website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the earthquake took place at 20:04 (19:04) in the Defne district of Hatay. 

The earthquake was felt all over Cyprus.

The 6.4 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 16.7 kilometers.

Some damaged buildings in the city were destroyed as a result of the earthquake. Turkish Interior Minister Soylu announced that 3 people lost their lives and 213 people were injured in the earthquake.

Hatay Mayor Savaş announced that there were reports of those who were under the rubble.

Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.4 and 5.8 occurred in Hatay this evening, one after the other. While the earthquake was felt in the surrounding provinces and many countries including Syria, it was learned that there were destroyed buildings and injured people.

AFAD warned: “It is important for our citizens to stay away from the coastline as a precaution against the risk of rising sea level up to 50 cm.”

SECOND EARTHQUAKE AFTER THREE MINUTES

After the earthquake in Defne district, another 5.8 earthquake occurred with the epicenter in Samandag district.

According to the information on the website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), after the 6.4-magnitude earthquake in Defne district at 20.04 (19:04), an earthquake also occurred in the Samandağ district of Hatay at 20.07.

The 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers.

FEELED IN MANY COUNTRIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST

The 6.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Defne district of Hatay shook the Middle East and North Africa as well.

The earthquake was felt in all cities of Lebanon, especially the capital Beirut. Panicked citizens went out to the gathering areas.

The Hatay-centered earthquake was also felt in Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Israel and Egypt.
