Men of the Katsina State Police Command have foiled a kidnap attempt by bandits at Ruwan Lafiya village in the Kankara Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.

After a gun duel with the gunmen, the police rescued the 65-year-old kidnapped victim, Hashim Yusuf, recovered 94 cows, 17 sheep, and two motorcycles.

A distress call was earlier received at the Kankara Divisional Police Headquarters regarding the movement of suspected bandits from Hayin Gada in Malumfashi LGA of the State.

Policemen, who responded to the call, confronted the armed bandits, attempting to flee the area with their victim.

The police spokesman in the state, Abubakar Sadiq, in a statement on Saturday said, “The officers exhibited exemplary courage and professional skills as they overwhelmingly outmatched the bandits, and rescued the victim unharmed.

“In the process of scanning the scene, ninety-four (94) cows, seventeen (17) sheep, and two (2) motorcycles were recovered.

“Operatives are combing the nearby bushes for possible bodies of neutralised bandits as they flee the scene with bullet wounds,” he added.
