Prince Harry arrived in the UK on Tuesday to participate in events commemorating the anniversary of his Invictus Games. However, he will not meet with his father, King Charles III, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, as confirmed by his spokesperson.
The Duke of Sussex’s last visit to the UK was in February, during which he visited his father shortly after Charles’s cancer diagnosis. It was anticipated that they would meet during Harry’s current trip, but the spokesperson clarified that it would not be possible due to the King’s busy schedule.
“In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme,” said the spokesperson.
The Duke, who stepped back from his royal duties in January 2020 and now resides in the United States with his wife Meghan, understands his father’s commitments and hopes to see him soon.
Following his arrival in London, Prince Harry, a former British Army captain, attended an event marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which he established to support wounded service personnel and veterans. The event took place near Charles’s residence at Clarence House.
Harry’s relationship with his father has faced strains due to his public revelations and criticisms of royal life, including in television interviews, a Netflix documentary, and his autobiography “Spare.”
King Charles, aged 75, has been undergoing treatment for an unspecified cancer and recently resumed public engagements after positive reports on his progress from doctors. Despite his health challenges, he continued to fulfill official duties, albeit in private, including receiving foreign diplomats.
