Islamic Solidarity Games: President Tatar Takes Statement Of Sertoğlu To Judiciary

President Ersin Tatar brought to justice the statements made by the President of the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation, Hasan Sertoğlu, regarding his participation in the opening of the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Konya upon the invitation of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to the statement made by the Salih Can Doratlı Law Office, an application was made to the court against Hasan Sertoğlu on the grounds that “his statements contain insults, constitute a ground and a destiny and are misleading to the public.” In the statement, it was noted that no further explanation will be made due to the transfer of the matter to the judiciary, and that further explanation may be made after the conclusion of the trial.

The statement is as follows:

“A comprehensive examination has been made by our office regarding the statements made by Mr. Hasan Sertoğlu, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation, regarding the participation of Mr. President of the Republic of Turkey in the opening of the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Konya upon the invitation of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Based on the information and instruction we received from our client, President Ersin Tatar, when you examine the aforementioned statements dated 08.08.2022 and 09.08.2022 in the light of our Tort Law, we have been instructed to take the matter to the Judiciary based on our determination that the contents of the statements constitute an insult against our Client.

In line with the instructions we received from our client, we respectfully state that we have applied to the Court on 13.08.2022 against Mr. Sertoğlu with the claim that his statements are defamatory, constitute a reason and a toe and mislead the public and that the explanation can only be made at the end of the trial as the matter has been transferred to the judiciary.”
